Massive Severe Weather Outbreak from Gulf to Great Lakes

A huge area of disturbed weather will span from the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes on Tuesday.

It brings with it the threat of flooding to portions of the South and Plains; plus, more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Widespread severe storms will span from Gulf to Great Lakes

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a massive spread of severe thunderstorms that will extend from the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes on Tuesday.

In addition, the NWS is warning of potential flash flooding in parts of the South and Plains to include portions of eastern Texas, northern Louisiana, southern and western Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.

The area of severe thunderstorms today with at least a Level-2 slight risk of severe storms will include eastern Texas, central and northern Louisiana, eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, western Mississippi, western Tennessee, southeastern Kansas, Missouri, eastern Iowa, Illinois, in southern Wisconsin.

The areas of most concern and considered a Level-3 or enhanced risk includes northeastern Texas, central and eastern Oklahoma, southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, eastern Arkansas, and northwestern Louisiana.

An enhanced Level-3 risk is defined as numerous severe storms possible, widespread with a few intense storms, more persistent, including the hazards of likely wind damage, 1-2 inch hail, and capable of spawning several tornadoes.

As of this writing, early Tuesday morning, people were already sending in photos of golf-ball-sized hail in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to local news outlets.

Dangerous area of severe weather in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas

According to the latest updates, there is now a Level-4 moderate risk for eastern Oklahoma, the northeastern corner of Texas, and along the western edge of Arkansas.

A moderate risk or Level-4 is defined as widespread severe storms, widespread wind damage, destructive hail, and strong tornadoes.
