Self-help is the best-selling genre of all time, and it rakes in over $1 billion every year. Everyone in the world is looking to improve or better themselves in some way, so it makes sense. From the Tony Robbins era to The Secret, everyone is looking for something.
Astrology has seen a huge explosion of popularity in the last few years, and it is ever increasing. People are turning to astrology to figure out their personality quirks, discover new things about themselves, or even help them make major life decisions, like career changes.
But is this major explosion in astrology growth because people are realizing the power that astrology and the zodiac have… or is it fast becoming the Millennial and Gen Y answer to the self-help industry? And if the answer is yes, is this going to kill astrology as we know it?
Why Modern Astrology Might Be Taking a Dangerous Path
Please understand that I am in no way suggesting that more people looking into and understanding astrology is a bad thing! The zodiac, and astrology, can be a very powerful tool and help many people.
However, modern astrology has gotten away from something that is meaningful and important, and moved into the realm of shallow, pithy one-liners that offer no value or substance. To say that is disappointing would be an understatement.
You can’t scroll through Facebook or Instagram without running into an astrological meme or joke post. Shocked Pikachu or Spongebob making jokes about Leo being a leader or Aries being outspoken are par for the course.
But this isn’t contributing to the bigger picture of astrology. This isn’t helping you connect spiritually with the universe, learn more about yourself, or help you make the best choices in your life. It’s just filling space, and not even in a good way.
What’s the Change?
Astrology has been around in one form or another for thousands of years. People have always been looking for more, and the universe has a way of providing it. But these people have been looking for more through astrology, spirituality, and religion.
Astrology is the only thing that remains in that trifecta.
Divorce from the spiritual side of it, astrology tends to fall flat. It’s powerful because astrology can connect you to something bigger than yourself. To the universe, to the world. But without these elements, it is just a collection of words.
How to Escape This Modern Astrology Curse
It’s important to remember when seeking out information about your zodiac, and the universe, that you know there is more than just the words on the page.
A wide variety of things affect your zodiac sign, like your astrological birth chart, that is often not talked about in ‘modern’, ‘new-age’ astrology discussions. Having a horoscope tell you that you’re failing because you’re doing something wrong isn’t just frustrating, it’s insulting.
Making the connection between astrology and spirituality is the missing link to these modern astrologers peddling basic information. Knowing that you are connected to everything, and everyone and astrology is that link between you is what is missing.
The universe speaks to you through astrology. You cannot escape that. Without that link, astrology is just another fake self-help concept peddled by a fake self-help guru looking for a buck.
