Chilly Start to the Week After a Mother’s Day Colder than Christmas

The cooler temperatures are going to last just a little bit longer in various parts of the country this week, with frost and freeze warnings in some areas and then returned to spring-like weather by the weekend; here’s today’s weather news and forecast.

More Winter-like weather to start the week

After a Mother’s Day that saw temperatures colder than Christmas in various locations, the week will follow suit with a few more days with chilly conditions. Highs will struggle to get out of the 40s in various places around the country, including portions of Montana, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

A frost advisory is in effect for portions of Pennsylvania overnight, as well as portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan where frosty conditions could continue for the next three days and temps are expected to dip into the 20s and possibly down into the teens and the northernmost reaches of Minnesota.

Mixed precipitation – possible snow?

The wintry weather will continue over the Northern Rockies and portions of the Northeast today were mixed precipitation could potentially transform into snowfall in some locations. The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecast mixed precipitation over parts of the Northwest in Northern Rockies in portions of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska.

In the Northeast, the NWS has forecast a wintry mix over portions of the Virginians, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Today’s severe weather spot and thunderstorms

The NWS is forecasting the potential for severe thunderstorms and disturbed weather over East south-central New Mexico and into Northwestern Texas today. Thunderstorms will be prevalent over portions of the south-central US, Southwest, and Plains states today. Thunderstorms are also forecast over portions of the West in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

In the Northeast, thunderstorms will span the eastern seaboard from New Jersey to Maine. Southern Florida around Miami and slightly north will also experience thunderstorms today.
