The threat of flooding will occur over a dozen southern states today, as heavy rain and severe weather will affect the region for the next three days, while the upper central US will see brutal wind chills; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.
Flood threat across the South
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch in several Southern states which will remain in effect for the next two days. Heavy rain and thunderstorms, which could turn severe, will continue through midweek in the South.
The highest risk of flooding on Monday and Tuesday will be in the central and northern portions of Mississippi and Alabama.
However, a moderate risk of flooding exists for the northeast corner of Louisiana; the southeast corner of Arkansas; the northern halves of Mississippi and Alabama; the northern quarter of Georgia; southern middle and eastern Tennessee; and the southwestern edge of North Carolina.
Extreme wind chills for the upper midwest and Great Lakes this week
The upper midwest and Great Lakes region are going to see a brutal cold this week, which will be accompanied by some extreme wind chills.
By Thursday at 7:30 AM, Fargo is forecast to experience when chills of -36 degrees, but the coldest spot will be in Sioux Falls with a wind chill factor of -45 degrees.
Other extreme wind chills are forecast for: International Falls -44, Minneapolis -31, Sioux City -31, Des Moines -24, Madison -16, Milwaukee -7, Green Bay -16, Rochester -37, Minot -29.
Winter storm warning for New Mexico, North Texas & Oklahoma
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for northern and central New Mexico today, while to the east in northern Texas and the Oklahoma Panhandle the NWS has issued a winter storm watch.
